Make your bed

If you can only accomplish one thing a day make sure that it is making your bed. In a recent study it was revealed that people who made their beds are overall happier than those that don’t. It takes about 2 minutes and boy does it feel good!

After reading these tips don’t try to do everything the same day. The point is to not overwhelm yourself with daily chores but to find a way of getting these simple things done on a weekly basis. Remember that your babies are your number one priority and everyone that comes by to visit should know that. Enjoy your twins as much as you can and don’t stress yourself over the little things. I have to go… my twinks are sleeping and the vacuum just smiled at me.

The whole rollercoaster of feedings, diaper changes, and napping has begun. After a couple of weeks when you think you have this whole thing down, you start to notice one thing. Even though you have a grip on this whole twin situation, you do not have a grip on the household situation. Looking around, you now realize that what used to be a clean home now looks more like a war zone! What did you do wrong? Before these little people popped into your life you were known for being clean and organized! You obviously need to find a different routine!

Well, I was there too, and I can tell you that it’s not as bad as it seems. You just need to follow a couple of tips to make sure that this does not get so out of control that you are considered a hoarder by your family and friends!

Raising Toddler Twins

Parents of twin toddlers face additional challenges. Often they are required to make a decision that benefits one twin and makes it difficult for the other. Some expectations must be the same for both children in order for the parents to model consistent, clear, and unwavering behavior about specific limits and rules. For example, one mother told me that she had to take away the bottle from one twin because the other refused to use her Sippy cup when she saw her sister with the bottle. Another mom told me that she had to enforce the same rules for both of her sons about using the pacifier in order to quell the protests of inequality. It takes tremendous courage for parents of twins to make decisions that do not necessarily reflect the individual needs and wishes of both children.

Bathing Twins

Here are some tips I’ve learned about bathing twins in the bathtub:

Get all your towels and wash rags ready before you start the water.
Make sure your soap is within reach of your kneeling on the floor position.
Put down a non-stick mat that covers the bathtub floor.
It helps to have a cup for rinsing the babies. You may need two cups so that one baby can play while the other is cleaned.
Strip down both babies to their diapers so you can pull one’s diaper off, put the baby in the tub, and then immediately take off the other baby’s diaper in rapid succession.
Once the water starts in the tub, you can’t leave. Your babies will need constant supervision.
Use the kneeling pads you can find at a garden center while kneeling on the hard bathroom floor.

How to Feed Twins

Feeding twins at the same time could be breastfeeding, bottle feeding, or a combination of those. But in most articles tandem feeding refers to breastfeeding more than one baby at a time.

Use a double nursing pillow for resting the babies (these are horseshoe shaped, stiff foam pillows that will support two babies at the right level and position for breast feeding). Many twins moms recommend the EZ2Nurse pillow.
You may need several pillows under the sides of the double nursing pillow
Use a pillow behind mom’s back for support
